LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
"Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality." – Warren G. Bennis
My philosophy of leadership is one of collaboration and teamwork within which members of a team can utilize one another's strengths to counter individual weaknesses. The greatest leaders know their limitations and are adept at leveraging their strengths and the strengths of others to compensate.
PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” – Benjamin Franklin
My educational philosophy is to serve the educational needs of all students by providing dynamic courses that promote active and student-centered learning. I consistently reflect on my pedagogical approach, instructional tools, and delivery modes to be innovative with the curricular process and intentional to provide pre-service and in-service educators the skills, knowledge and dispositions necessary to educate twenty-first century learners.
I perceive my mission and role as a facilitator. Learning is an active and reflective process. I encourage critical thinking through realistic and relevant context embedded within my teaching. I am sensitive to learners’ experiences and support them through the discovery process. Assessment must be authentic and interwoven within my teaching. I value flexibility and the ability to approach teaching and learning using a variety of methods.
Personal Belief of Learning and Knowledge Construction:
DIVERSITY STATEMENT
"Providing every student with a path to academic success requires a revolution in what we do." – Jeffrey Benson
I work collaboratively to foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion that welcomes and respects everyone for who they are and who they will become. Inequality is one of the most enduring features of our nation’s higher education system. Racial, ethnic and class-based disparities in college access, enrollment, and completion persist despite years of programmatic and policy efforts to counteract them. We must support a system to develop equity-minded practitioners and implement culturally responsive pedagogy to gain significant success for all students. Faculty, staff, and administrators need to work together and ask hard questions to mitigate inequalities. As a faculty member and administrator, I have focused my efforts to improve the equity divide. I have participated in several professional development opportunities and have focused on the University of Southern California's Center for Urban Education, Achieving the Dream, and the Aspen Institute principles.
